In Europe by train

2021 has been declared the "European Year of Railways" to promote the use of trains as a safe and sustainable mean of transport.

In the framework of the European Green Agreement and the European Union's effort to select more environmentally friendly means of transport and achieve climate neutrality by 2050, actions are being carried out to promote rail transport.

It is noteworthy that rail transport is responsible for only 0.4% of gas emissions in the European Union. The rail network is largely electric and the train is the only mean of transport that has consistently reduced its emissions since 1990.

At the same time, the railway achieves sustainable and secure mobility since it connects remote areas, ensuring the internal and cross-border cohesion of European regions.

Hellenic Train, a pioneer in its field, is already a member of the well-known Interrail railway cards. The neighboring railway networks of Serbia, FYROM, Romania and Bulgaria also participate in their offers, ensuring the seamless access from our country to all European countries with its main concern, the protection of the environment.

Holders of Interrail cards enjoy various offers or discounts from cooperating companies in European level, such as shipping companies, railway museums, youth hostels, etc. In the Greek side, the shipping companies Attica Group and Minoan Lines participate to the trip towards the Adriatic between Italy - Greece. Multi-route Interrail cards offer life experiences and enable the holder to:

• travel by rail to 30 countries in Europe

• choose one European country

• combine more European countries

• choose as many train journey days as he wants, depending on his available time

• travel to 1st or 2nd class on European trains.

There are also attractive financial offers for young people, adults over 65, and for trips lasting 5 - 30 days. By installing a smart application for mobile, the traveler can plan train trips from his phone.
