ANNOUNCEMENT 18/06/2026- Temporary Changes to Athens–Thessaloniki Services Due to Infrastructure Works

Athens, 18 June 2026 – Hellenic Train would like to inform passengers that temporary changes will apply to Athens–Thessaloniki services from 22 to 24 June 2026 due to infrastructure works being carried out by the Infrastructure Manager, OSE, on the Leianokladi–Larissa section.

 

The works are part of the ongoing programme to restore railway infrastructure in Thessaly following the damage caused by Daniel and Elias storms and are necessary for the completion of the remaining restoration works.

 

To facilitate passengers, Hellenic Train will provide buses to replace train service on the Lianokladi–Thessaloniki route and vice versa.

 

Athens – Thessaloniki Services (IC50 & IC56)

 

Trains will run between Athens and Leianokladi as scheduled. At Leianokladi, passengers will transfer to Hellenic Train buses serving:

 

• Thessaloniki (non-stop)
• Platy (non-stop)
• Katerini (non-stop)
• Palaiofarsalos and Larissa

 

In addition, a connecting bus service will depart from Palaiofarsalos, calling at Larissa, Katerini and Platy before arriving in Thessaloniki. Departures from Palaiofarsalos are scheduled at 10:00 and 21:00.

 

Thessaloniki – Athens Services (IC51 & IC57)

 

Passengers travelling towards Athens will begin their journey by bus from Thessaloniki and intermediate stations to Leianokladi, where they will transfer to a train for the remainder of their journey to Athens.

 

The following direct bus services will operate:

 

• Thessaloniki – Leianokladi, departing at 05:55 and 16:49
• Platy – Leianokladi, departing at 06:20 and 17:14
• Katerini – Leianokladi, departing at 06:43 and 17:37

• Larissa – Palaiofarsalos – Leianokladi, departing at 07:26 and 18:20.

 

Additionally, a stopping bus service will operate from Thessaloniki, calling at Platy, Katerini, Larissa and Palaiofarsalos before arriving at Leianokladi. Departures from Thessaloniki are scheduled at 05:55 and 16:49.

 

Suburban services on the Larissa–Thessaloniki–Larissa route will operate normally.

 

Hellenic Train will make every effort to provide the best possible service to passengers during the construction work and recommends that passengers check for schedule changes through the company’s official information channels before their trip.
