PRESS RELEASE 23/06/2026 - Testing successfully completed for the Certification of the new Coradia Stream trainsets
Athens, 23 June 2026 – Hellenic Train, remaining fully committed to its obligations and project timelines, announces the successful completion of all required testing activities for the certification of the new Coradia Stream trainsets on the Greek railway network.
The testing programme included:
• Certification tests of the energy subsystem at speeds of up to 160 km/h, carried out on the Platy–Katerini and Leianokladi–Tithorea sections between 12 March and 24 April 2026.
• Compatibility tests with the Greek railway network on the Piraeus–Airport, Piraeus–Kiato, Athens–Chalkida, Athens–Leianokladi and Larissa–Thessaloniki routes, conducted between 5 and 9 May 2026.
• Verification of the operation of the ETCS (European Train Control System) and GSM-R (Global System for Mobile Communications - Railway) safety and communication systems, carried out between 9 and 12 June 2026.
During the testing campaign, which was completed in cooperation with Alstom, the Infrastructure Manager, Hellenic Railways (OSE), and the competent authorities, an extensive programme of measurements and inspections was carried out by independent assessment bodies and a specialised laboratory to confirm the trainsets’ full compliance with the safety and interoperability requirements of the Greek railway network.
The next stage of the process involves the completion and assessment of the technical reports resulting from the tests. This process is expected to be completed in the coming weeks and will form the basis for the submission of the authorisation dossier to the European Union Agency for Railways (ERA), with the aim of obtaining the required authorisation for placing the new Coradia Stream trainsets into service on the Greek railway network.
Hellenic Train continues to implement its fleet renewal programme consistently and according to plan, with the objective of providing modern, safe and reliable rail services to passengers.
