Hellenic Train applies a discounted fare policy for passengers with disabilities, on the total ticket price, upon presentation of a valid Disability Travel Card.

A corresponding discount is also granted to accompanying persons, provided they hold a Companion Disability Travel Card.

These cards are issued by the competent Regional Authorities or Citizen Service Centres (KEP) and must be validated for the years 2025 or 2026.


Accepted Documents

In addition, a valid Disability Card is accepted in the following formats:

  • printable 
  • digital (via the Gov.gr Wallet application) 
  • physical (plastic card) 

The card must bear the designation II or III.


For companion eligibility:

  • printable format must include the indication “S” 
  • digital or physical format must include “Companion Required: YES”

No additional documentation is required for the companion.

 


Remote Interpretation Service (“Relay Service”)

Hellenic Train, in cooperation with the National Foundation for the Deaf, provides telephone support for deaf and hard-of-hearing passengers through the “Relay Service”.

The service offers remote interpretation in Greek Sign Language and lip-reading support, enabling passengers to receive information on:

  • routes and schedules 
  • tickets 
  • passenger services

Travel with Wheelchairs

Travel for passengers using wheelchairs is available on selected routes within the Hellenic Train network.

Available route

  • Athens – Thessaloniki – Athens 

Specially designed compartments for passengers with reduced mobility are available on the following train services:

  • IC 50 
  • IC 56 
  • IC 51 
  • IC 57 

Passengers and their companions requiring specific assistance may travel in these compartments, following prior coordination with Customer Service. Τhis apartment can also accommodate passengers who need special conditions during the journey. Please,  contact Hellenic Train Customer Service Office before embarkation.

Wheelchair specifications

For safe transport, wheelchairs must not exceed:

  • maximum width: 70 cm 
  • maximum length: 130 cm 

 

Service conditions

  • Up to two (2) wheelchair users per train service can be accommodated 
  • Companions may travel in the same compartment upon prior arrangement 
  • These trains are equipped with accessible toilets

Note:
Wheelchair access is not available on Hellenic Train bus replacement services or on the Pelion railway.


Unplanned Travel

Unplanned travel for PRM passengers is possible, under certain conditions, on:

  • Athens Suburban Railway (Piraeus – Athens – Chalkida – Kiato – Airport) 
  • Kiato – Aigio line 
  • Patras Suburban Railway 

Service is provided at stations with staffed ticket offices and within operating hours.

Boarding with Portable Ramps

Boarding and alighting using portable ramps is supported on:

  • Athens Suburban Railway (Piraeus – Athens – Ano Liosia – Airport) 
  • Piraeus – Kiato line 
  • Kiato – Aigio line 
  • Athens – Chalkida line 
  • Katakolo – Olympia line 
  • Patras Suburban Railway

Infrastructure and Equipment

Stations and trains of the Athens Suburban Railway provide:

  • boarding ramps for passengers with reduced mobility 
  • visual passenger information screens (on most trains) 
  • audio announcements (on all trains) 
    • low-height staffed ticket counters at Metamorfosi, Athens Airport, Agioi Anargyroi

Important Notice

Across the wider Hellenic Train network, unplanned travel for PRM passengers is generally not feasible.

If a passenger arrives at a ticket office without prior arrangement, the request will be assessed on-site, and the passenger will be informed:

  • whether immediate travel is possible, or 
  • of alternative options (e.g. nearest accessible boarding or alighting station)
