Athens, 27 August 2026 – Hellenic Train informs passengers that today, at 09:12, the driver of Train 1593 (Thessaloniki – Larissa), carrying 68 passengers, noticed a person on the railway line shortly before Larissa Station.
Following the prescribed procedures, the driver immediately activated the train’s emergency braking system and audible warning signals; however, the collision with the person could not be avoided.
The train remains at the scene, where the Fire Brigade, Police and Emergency Medical Services (EKAB) have arrived to carry out the required procedures.
As a result of the incident, delays and possible service modifications are expected on the Thessaloniki – Larissa line.
Hellenic Train expresses its regret over the incident and is cooperating with the competent authorities in the investigation into its causes.
