Hellenic Train’s new Tap in Train service ensures fast and easy transportation by enabling you to purchase your ticket using your debit/credit card directly in the train.
How does the new Tap in Train service work:
• At the validating devices, located in the train, next to the entrance/exit doors, select the fare corresponding to the Zone(s) of your journey.
• Tap your debit/credit card on the validating device’s screen (you may also insert the card to the device and enter your PIN).
• The device’s software identifies your bank card and charges your account with the amount corresponding to your selected fare.
• Ticket inspection on board is carried out by showing the physical or digital debit/credit card used for the payment.
To avoid the risk of double charges or charges to a different card, it is recommended that you:
• Approach the device only with the debit/credit card you want to be charged, without holding other cards at the same time.
• Avoid using the card while inside a wallet or a phone case.
Payment Methods
Credit/debit cards are accepted in physical or digital form via mobile phone or smartwatch, for fast and secure contactless payment of your fare.
Accepted cards include:
• In physical form: VISA / MasterCard / Maestro / Amex / Diners
• Via Google Pay or Apple Pay: Visa and MasterCard
Before using your debit/credit card for traveling, make sure that your card:
• Is active and valid (hasn’t expired)
• Supports contactless payments
• Has sufficient funds in the linked account
• If using a digital wallet, ensure that the NFC function on your device is enabled.
The payment will appear in the transaction history of the account linked to the card used.
The Tap in Train service does not support the purchase of multi-journey travel cards.
