The Primary Trade Union “Panhellenic Union of Traction Personnel” (P.E.P.E.) has called a 24-hour strike for tomorrow, Friday, 30 October 2026.
Our Company, exercising its lawful right, brought the matter before the Greek courts, which, by a ruling of the Single-Member Court of First Instance of Piraeus, declared the announced strike unlawful, both on the grounds of failure to comply with the statutory procedures concerning the designation of personnel and in relation to the demands put forward in support of the strike. Furthermore, the Court expressly prohibited any future strike action concerning the same subject matter.
Nevertheless, we were informed a short while ago that the Panhellenic Federation of Railway Workers (P.O.S.) has called a new 24-hour strike for the same day, without complying with the procedures and deadlines prescribed by law. This action constitutes a clear attempt to circumvent the court ruling already issued and to bypass the legal requirements governing the exercise of the right to strike.
Such practices, quite apart from the question of their legality, undermine the institutional role of the judiciary, disrupt the smooth operation of railway services, and cause serious disruption and inconvenience to passengers, who are once again being called upon to bear the consequences of trade union actions that do not comply with the requirements prescribed by law.
We leave these specific trade union practices to the judgement of the passengers, as they reveal the true attitude of the trade unions towards passengers. The decision to call another strike, despite the preceding court ruling, demonstrates that the inconvenience caused to passengers is regarded as an acceptable consequence of their trade union tactics.
Hellenic Train fully respects the constitutionally guaranteed right to strike, which must, however, be exercised within the limits established by the legal framework and with due respect for judicial decisions.
We call upon employees to demonstrate responsibility, respect the law and judicial decisions, and contribute to the uninterrupted operation of railway services, for the benefit of passengers and society as a whole.
Our Company reserves the right to exercise all its legal rights in order to protect its interests, ensure the smooth operation of railway services, and prevent further inconvenience to the travelling public.
