Budapest by train
Budapest, a beautiful city full of romance and charm, lies in Europe’s heart, the Carpathian region.
A dream destination all year round, it is known as “Eastern Europe's Paris” or the “city of music”. Splendid natural beauty, a rich heritage, many beautiful monuments, countless pedestrian streets and, of course, the ‘blue’ Danube make it incomparable.
The city is divided in half by the river. On one side lies the imposing, hilly Buda, and on the other contemporary, flat Pest. The two parts are connected by six bridges, the most famous being the impressive Chain-bridge with the stone arches.
Budapest is an ideal destination to explore on foot. Walking provides visitors the opportunity to feel the city’s ambience, admire its magnificent renovated buildings, enjoy the beauty of the lush parks and cross the bridges over the Danube. Besides walking, a night cruise in the Danube offers a sublime experience, with exceptional city views and magical reflections in the water.
The city offers numerous opportunities for recreation and creative renewal, thanks to the many cultural and musical festivals organized throughout the year. Moreover, its hot springs, singled out for their high therapeutic value, make the city a very popular destination for health tourism. Over the last years, Budapest has developed into an important commercial hub and a center of industrial activities.
Responding to the increasing demand, Hellenic Train now offers a new rail route from Athens to Budapest, on Saturdays. For further information, click here.
