Refunds
Updated 11.04.2023:
Hellenic Train informs its cardholders that cards issued before 1 March 2023 and valid from 01/03 to 21/03 (in whole or in part) receive the corresponding extension of days.
The above is applicable from 12 April 2023.
Updated 27.03.2023:
The holders of active coupons may come to the ticket offices of the Hellenic Train network and redeem their coupons by presenting them in physical form (if issued by a ticket office) or by stating the number of the coupon (if issued and sent electronically), in order to receive their value in cash.
Updated 08.03.2023:
Hellenic Train informs its cardholders that the following forms of compensation are foreseen for cards issued by the electronic system of Hellenic Train, valid after 01 March 2023 and applicable to all routes of the network.
1. UNLIMITED ROUTE CARDS
Passengers who have been issued multi-trip cards with validity in number of days (6, 15, 30 days & 3, 6, 12 months), have the right to deposit their cards at the station ticket offices and to be refunded without deduction in cash, a fee equal to the price per day of the card multiplied by the number of additional days from 01-03-2023 until the expiry date.
2. CARDS WITH TRAVEL NUMBER
Passengers who have been issued with 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 return travel cards with a validity of 1 month and expiring after 01-03-2023, if not all the journeys have been made by the expiry date, have the right to deposit their cards at the station ticket offices and to be reimbursed, without deduction in cash, a fee equal to the price of the card divided by the number of journeys not made.
The above is applicable from 8 March to 12 April 2023.

In case of train's delay or cancellation, refunds are made from HELLENIC TRAIN points of sale by cash or by issuing nominal voucher valid for one year.
In case of tickets that are issued via Hellenic Train web ticketing or mobile app, refunds are also made to passenger bank cards.
Refunds are made for itineraries on strike days or on cancellations of specific itineraries.
Travel voucher from train delay
Passenger, who traveled with an e-ticket, can issue the voucher via Hellenic Train web site: here
Passenger who traveled with ticket issued at a physical sales point of Hellenic Train, should address at a physical sales point of Hellenic Train in order to receive the voucher.
Rules for compensation for delays:
- For a delay of 60 to 119 minutes, the compensation is at the 25% of the value of the submitted ticket.
- For a delay from 120 to 179 minutes, the compensation is at the 50% of the value of the submitted ticket.
Especially: For the ICE ETR itineraries Athens-Thessaloniki
For a delay more than 60 minutes, the compensation is at the 100% of the nominal value of the submitted ticket.
Amounts less or equal to 4 euros are not compensated
